Just noticed something that the geographic location (gl) changes the results of Google. See the two links

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&gl=fr&q=Seocontest2008
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&gl=us&q=Seocontest2008

No changes in top two places but 3 and 4 are different (or were when I looked)

Is it because different servers are interrogated or is there something else that changes with the gl variable ? Which geographic location is used to determine the winner on April 1st ?

The results were not only 600k+, it already reached 800k+ but Google does some sort of recount once in a while. I don't know why but I have seen this many times in previous SEO contest.

---------

On comparing G, Y and M. I must say in the previous SEO contest GlobalWarming Awareness2007, my strategy there was so different since you needed to rank high in all 3 search engines and there was this kind of commulative score.

---------

@Eclipsis: Nice I wish I could visit one day there, wherever you guys are and just do some knowledge sharing.

Last October 2007, I went back to the Philippines as a speaker at the SEMCon 07. Yahoo and Google Asia representatives were there. As well as several SEO personalities like Aaron Wall and Todd Malicoat. One thing I can say is Google Philippines and the rest of the Google Asia team are cool. They talked to us and shared a of info.

During the "Sorcier Glouton" contest, which was contested on the MSN/Live search engine, on march 2005, Microsoft France sent some of its team to meet us, trying to understand better our technics, our tips and cheats. What went out from those discussions and meeting, was not very appreciable for us, anyway, we appreciated this intention.
What Microsoft did on 2005, I think Google could have done on 2008. Anyway, even if they didn't met the contestant, as Microsoft teammates (which were very nice, cool and open-minded, yet good looking to for the girl ;)), they may have eared of this Seocontest2008 international contest and may look to it with attention...

In case they do, I hope they enjoy all this.
Soon, we'll organize a post-seocontest2008 dinner in France... If Matt Cutts (or anybody from Google) wants to come, he'll be welcome (but, he brings his girlfriend and a good bottle of wine :D).
PS: Besides, if some other contestant (even from San Diego ;)) want to join us at such a dinner, just tell us, we'll organize the meet...

Finally, I should have played with you guys. It looks like this SEO competition was fun !
However, I have to admit that I'm a little burn out from these kind of contests.
Good luck for the final rush.

I'm sure you're read ;-)
Seo Contests are places of preferred comments also for Google & co...
You give them some free knowledge.
